New Construction Age in Place

Designed in 2022 as part of a 19-home, 55+ residential development in New Hampshire, this modest residence reflects a thoughtful approach to comfortable, independent living. Our involvement extended beyond the architectural design of all 19 homes to include construction project management, working closely with the developer to create a cohesive community tailored to the needs of its residents.

This particular home required careful attention to universal design principles, eliminating physical barriers while maintaining the warmth and character of a traditional residence. Zero-threshold transitions were incorporated throughout, including direct access from the attached garage, while the front entry was designed to minimize changes in elevation. Wider hallways, generous door openings, and carefully planned wheelchair turning clearances provide ease of movement throughout the home.

The custom-designed kitchen incorporates thoughtfully detailed cabinetry with recessed toe kicks and work areas designed to accommodate wheelchair users, ensuring that everyday tasks remain comfortable and convenient.

The result is a welcoming, highly functional home that demonstrates how thoughtful design can support independence without sacrificing comfort or aesthetics. Designed with both present and future needs in mind, it offers its owners the confidence and flexibility to enjoy their retirement for years to come.
